“In 2025, I was a victim of domestic violence and needed a safe place to go. As the mother of a teenage daughter, I faced an especially difficult choice. I called Elizabeth’s Village, and after answering a few questions, I was told, “We have a room for you.” I arrived the next day unsure of what to expect and was greeted by the same person I had spoken with on the phone. She took her time with me, let me move at my own pace, and helped me settle in. In the days that followed, I received help with food and clothing, and the process of finding myself began. During my stay, I became seriously ill with breast cancer and needed an immediate double mastectomy. It was not part of the plan, but everyone at Elizabeth’s Village played a role in my recovery.

When the Porch Light Came On
One year ago, something incredible happened in Georgetown and Scott County!
For the first time, women and children escaping domestic violence had a safe place to stay right here at home.
Before The Haley House opened, many survivors had to leave our community to find safety. Some stayed in dangerous situations because they simply had nowhere else to go.
Today, because of this community, that has changed.
In our first year, we’ve welcomed 24 women and 26 children into safety and provided 4,231 safe nights at The Haley House. A safe night means more than a bed. It means a locked door, a warm meal, listening advocates, and the chance to sleep without fear.
However, that number continues to grow every single night.
One evening, a young mother arrived carrying little more than a diaper bag and her child’s favorite stuffed animal. She was exhausted, scared, and unsure of what came next. That night, instead of wondering where they would sleep, they shared a warm meal, slept in safe beds, and woke up knowing they weren’t alone anymore.

As Georgetown and Scott County continue to be one of Kentucky’s fastest-growing communities, the need for safe shelter and domestic violence services continues to grow with it.
The Haley House is more than a shelter. It’s a place where survivors can breathe, heal, and begin again. Our staff is here 24 hours a day because abuse doesn’t happen on a schedule and neither does hope!
As we begin our second year, our promise is simple: if someone needs us, we’ll be here.
