A Place of Safety and Hope: Dedicating The Haley House

A Place of Safety and Hope: Dedicating The Haley House

As I stood at the front door of The Haley House during our open house and dedication ceremony, I was overcome with emotion. Surrounded by community members, partners, donors, and friends, I realized we weren’t just opening a building—we were opening the door to safety, healing, and hope for men, women and children in Georgetown and Scott County.

This journey has been one of determination, collaboration, and unwavering belief in the power of community. When we at Elizabeth’s Village first began envisioning a domestic violence shelter for our area, we knew the need was great. For years, survivors had to leave their community to find safety—forced to uproot their lives during the most vulnerable moments. We believed Georgetown deserved better. Survivors deserved better.

Now, The Haley House stands as the first and only domestic violence shelter in Georgetown and Scott County.

Every brick, every room, every welcoming space in this home is a testament to what we can achieve together. But it’s more than just a building—it’s a promise. A promise that no one in our community should have to face violence alone. That healing and support are not a luxury, but a right.

The name “The Haley House” holds deep meaning for us. It honors the story of Christopher Haley Logan. Haley’s journey was marked by pain, but also by profound strength and hope. By naming the shelter in his honor, we are affirming that every survivor’s story matters—and that healing is possible. His name now lives on as a symbol of courage, safety, and new beginnings.

The open house was a celebration not just of the shelter itself, but of the community that made it possible. We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support—neighbors who brought furniture and supplies, volunteers who painted walls and planted flowers, donors who believed in the mission even before the foundation was poured. Local businesses, civic groups, churches, and individuals all came together in powerful and meaningful ways.

To everyone who stood beside us—from the early days of planning to the ribbon-cutting moment—we thank you. Your support has helped create a sanctuary. Because of you, a mother will have a place to tuck her children in at night without fear. Because of you, a survivor can begin again with dignity and hope.

As the Executive Director of Elizabeth’s Village, I am humbled by this moment—but I know our work doesn’t stop here. The Haley House is a beginning, not an end. We remain committed to walking alongside every woman and child who seeks safety, housing, and empowerment. Together, we will continue building a community where everyone can thrive.

With deepest gratitude,
Tyler Brooker
Executive Director, Elizabeth’s Village
